Its that time of the week again after a crazy busy week - I’m listening to the afl.com.au audio for Dogs vs Saints and 2nd qtr it’s a shootout. Top 4 up for grabs this weekend. Tomorrow I’m off to first final for The Mornington Peninsula Football League, at Rosebud, where they have amazing home made hamburgers. The Dees are playing Geelong on their turf which should be a ripper.

Hard to Beat Montalto in Red Hill

Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove

5 out of 5

This place has the best door to enter through, killer views, great food, and its just a great vibe. Organising a picnic here is the secret order of the menu. Montalto is hard to beat.
See the picture - imagine walking for 5 minutes through the winery to your own private oasis, as staff dressed in black tshirts get on a 4 wheel powered buggy with the wine you have just chosen, along with fresh trout, smoked chicken, amazing berries and on and on - where u end up in a private secluded area - with your own pond, blanket, even mosquito repellant - totally amazing) You will be blown away.

Their Olive Festival gets thousands to it now. Montalto is very hard to beat. My long term favourite. (along with Cicciolina in St Kilda and pre-Montalto I loved Red Hill Estate next door which even better views, great seafood and awesome outdoor dining)

Dees to Manage Kangas I Hope

We’d like that 3rd spot now that Franky’s Saints choked against a tough Fremantle outfit with Jeff Farmer kicking four goals in first quarter. I’ll be there…

L’Aperitivo Fine Italian Cafe

2 out of 5

L’aperitivo in Glenhuntly Road is always busy with the grown out of St Kilda, multicultural crowd, trying to make Elsternwick kewl, as impossible as that is. One time I had a coffee here I waited hours for service, and even more time for the coffee, which I needed to reorder. Havent been back.

My choice of coffee in area is “Gunthers” opposite elsternwick station and the Classic Cinema, these guys make a great latte in the morning to get you going.

The Secret MySpace Induced Jet Gig

Jet

If you read the front page of most newspapers this week you heard about the secret MySpace induced Jet gig. Did anyone go ? The Popalastic Melbourne Blog had the juice on the gig :

  • There was a big queue.
  • Despite being internet users, they appeared not to be virgins.
  • Jet were loud.
  • They did their new songs first.
  • The new single sounded very good.
  • Jet fans have very big hair.
  • Which made it hard to see.
  • They did their old songs last.
  • Which still sound the same.

Rye almost got over Dromana in last quarter but were just beaten : Finals in the Mornington Peninsula Football League start next week (at Rosebud) if you want something different.

Impressive win by the Bulldogs today : Adam Cooney and Scott West had gun games.. And Geelong beat Sydney. Top 8 is great with 6 teams on the same amount of points.

(with images i didnt know.. in upload a photo once u have uploaded : if u Left mouse click on the image and you can select - thumbnail size or Using original. - using original is bigger than thumbnail fyi)

I Missed Gervais Extra TV Show

I need Elgato HDTV on my Mac because the 2 TV’s in this house were occupied (watching House, fair enough - best FTA show) and I couldnt watch Ricky Gervais’ new show about being an extra on a film set. (i did listen to his whole series of podcasts when they were free on BBC website) I also want to see Aaron Sorkin’s new TV show that has a similar pitch but around a TV Show and not focused on extras. How good was the Extra for those who saw it ?

Custard Donut + Latte pre/post MCG

Laurent Boulangerie Patisserie

4 out of 5
The custard donuts are famous; Their cakes for parties are amazing. My smaller tip : order a half sized chicken/walnut baguette and a latte to go. Post game to celebrate or a caffeine fix pre game. Great place to do work meetings is Laurent, esp the Toorak road institution at the Como. Oh the 90’s !

Calibre Clothing

4 out of 5
In a previous life I could work down here and drop a gorilla ($1k) without really thinking about it; Loafers, jeans, shirts, crap and so on. Money earnt. Money spent. Calibre do The Racing Carnival (esp Derby Day) and Wedding Wear very well. Will keep your G/F or prospect happy. But only if ya got the kaching. I miss you Calibre.

Friday Afterwork Hampton Scene

Brown Cow Cafe

3 out of 5
This place gets a diverse bunch of bayside people who arent rich enough for Brighton or hip enough (nor want to be, or drive all way in) to St Kilda. Its got good beers on tap; Lots of food. But one of those places to me where you spend as much as you would at much better brethren. Smart business because lacks competition in the area and has a large catchment area. And when you live in area and just want to catchup with a friend, you really dont want to navigate the inner-bayside.
